DevSecOps Tutorial: Production-Grade SonarQube Setup + CI/CD Code Scans with GitHub Actions
Step-One
SonarQube Production Graded Structure and Components

SonarQube Components and Structure for Source Code Analysis (SCA)
This diagram illustrates the architecture of SonarQube for automated source code analysis and integration with CI/CD pipelines:
- User / GitHub Actions: Developers trigger analysis via automated CI pipelines or manual scans. GitHub Actions can invoke SonarScanner to push analysis reports.
- SonarScanner: Collects source code metrics and sends them via the REST API to the SonarQube server.
- SonarQube Server (Community, Developer, or Enterprise Edition):
- Manages analysis jobs, starts/stops services, and provides the web interface.
- Reads system properties at startup and coordinates the analysis flow.
- Web Interface: Presents dashboards, reports, and metrics to users. Reads/writes from the Elasticsearch database for fast search and retrieval.
- Elasticsearch (ES): Stores and indexes analysis data for quick queries.
- Compute Engine (CE): Processes analysis reports and writes results to ES and SonarQube database.
- Databases:
- SonarQube Database: Stores configuration, user data, project settings, and persistent analysis results.
- ES Database: Stores indexed analysis data for high-performance searches.
This architecture enables automated, continuous code quality and security scanning, providing developers with actionable insights before deployment.
